From as far back as I can remember, I have been afraid.
Afraid of the big dog that lived by my girl friend’s house.
Afraid of the new class of students that stared at me as I stood at the door on my first day of school. Afraid of the new teacher. How long would it take her to discover how little I knew?
Afraid that I’d never be able to find my way home.
Afraid that I’d fail the course and so embarrassed at that very thought.
So when the pastor preached that Sunday about having a great faith
my ears perked up.
If anyone ever longed to have great faith, I certainly did.
Yes, I believed. From the time I was a young child and prayed for Him to come into my heart
I knew that He was with me. But somehow that belief was not enough
to keep me from being afraid.
Fears grew like quickly forming snowballs blocking me from life itself.
Faith in the Lord will cause your fears to disappear, I heard.
So I prayed and prayed and prayed some more
But I was still afraid. Chicken Little had nothing on me!
So how did I begin to learn to walk by faith?
It will take much longer than this blog to tell you but the key really was connected with what
I focused on.
Focus on the blowing winds and the high waves,
and I always sank.
Focus on the others watching me in the boat,
and I sank even faster.
Focus on my lack of ability and why, I was a goner.
I had to focus on the One Who was Lord of all heaven and earth.
The more I learned Who God really was
and what He was able to do
the more my fears began to lessen and I began to tap into a power I had never known before. It wasn’t about me.
In a world where anxiety disorders are escalating at a rapid pace
wouldn’t you like to learn
how to develop a walk on water faith?
It’s possible. Oh I wish I had known it all years ago
but at least I know it today.
How about it?
