Some people want to have guns for protection.
Others trust in their Neighborhood Watch, or the police or another protection service.
But I have discovered something that is better than all of these.
The name of Jesus.
Months ago when all of a sudden our home began to rattle and shake
and I knew that there was danger.
I whispered His Name.
Jesus.
Yes, that was the first thought that came to mind.
I was puzzled, scared, confused
all wrapped into one.
I jumped to protect my girls from whatever was happening.
Jesus
The One Who promises to always be there for me
“I am with you always…”Matthew 28:20
Jesus
The One to Whom I ran for protection and safety
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” Psalms 23:4
Jesus
Within seconds we raced down the stairs and outside
where a crowd of neighbors was gathering.
Looking back at our homes we watched
Holding our breaths
Holding each other
But in the midst of the earthquake
Jesus was there.
Then all was still.
We waited.
Watched
and then begin to move.
An earthquake people said
My heart was still racing. It took me a long time to quiet.
But I realized again
the power of saying His Name
of calling out to the One and Only One
for help in time of need.
He tells us to come to Him all the time.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8
He longs to have a personal relationship with each one of us
always
and every minute of the day.
Whisper His Name.
Right where you are just now.
Jesus
Jesus
How precious is that Name.
Truly it is the sweetest Name in all the world.
No matter how you feel
Say His Name
No matter what you are facing
Speak His Name
Somehow in His amazing Love He draws near to us when we whisper His Name.
His Name gives us power in the midst of horrible tragedy
and unexpected terror
His Name gives us peace as we wait by the bedside of a sick one
Jesus. Jesus. Jesus
There’s just something about that Name
His Name shines brighter than anything here on earth.
Lighting the Way for us to know Him.
