How’s Your Soul?

Nov 7, 2019

It’s that missing piece, isn’t it?

In a world that applauds activity and ‘doing’ ..

In a world that praises accomplishments and meeting goals…

and often gives us messages that we are human-doings…

I’m left today with this question,

“How is your soul?” ( referring to that hidden, spiritual side of a person)

Weary. Worn-out. Running on empty people.

Trying so hard to do what’s expected…

but down deep inside

there is this gnawing ache;

Something is just not right.

The Lord spoke about our souls in His Word.

We are more than just a body and mind.

We each have been given a soul –

a soul to tend and care for.

All the racing and running,

Dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s

Can leave one so exhausted and puzzled.

“What’s wrong?” we ask with silent cries.

We must learn to tend our souls, dear friends.

To take time to simply be in the moment.

To breathe in the air and slowly exhale

and experience the essence of life.

Unfortunately, people are burning out on every side.

Worn out from trying harder and doing more.

Disillusioned and frustrated.

Isn’t life more than this?

Yes, it is.

But we must choose to give ourselves time to tend our souls.

Pay attention to those moments when you are satisfied within.

Notice the activities that leave you empty.

Intentionally create time for tending your soul –

for being with God.

and notice the difference that that makes.

The quality of our souls will indelibly touch others for good or for ill.

Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.

Prov. 4:23, NASB

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27, NASB).
