Light for the Ordinary Day

Sep 1, 2011

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.
Eleanor Roosevelt
An ordinary day.  Next thing we had an earthquake jarring us out of security and into reality.
An ordinary day.  An accident leaving a couple grieving the loss of their only daughter.
An ordinary day. An email asking for prayer for a loved one facing a critical situation.
You face it too. Ordinary days that take unexpected twists and leave you reeling and oftentimes struggling to catch your breath.
 Where do you turn?
Today I experienced another seemingly ordinary day that led to a painful twist.
Life is difficult.  My heart is heavy with care. I cannot bear it alone. No, I must take it to the One Who knows all and Who is more than able to pick up the hurting and carry them on His Shoulders.
In the midst of the unexpected we can face fear by looking it straight in the face and moving forward.
But move forward to what you might ask?
Move forward into the awareness that we are not alone. Somewhere even though we can’t see and certainly don’t understand there is a purpose and a plan.
His Word says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not onto your own understanding. On all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” (Prov. 3:5-7)
Wise words that give me strength today. Trust. Lean not. Acknowledge. And He will.
He will. Those words dance across my heart. He will. He will.
Like trusting children who lost in the dark He comes and whispers, “I know your need on this ordinary day and I will give you Peace.”
He walks beside us giving us strength for each moment.
