I watched the surfer with interest as he walked out into the water.
What was his secret I wondered?
How could he so confidently face what would cause me great fear?
I spoke with the gal by the checkout of the store across the street.
How does he do that?
What is his secret?
Practice. Practice. Practice, she said.
I nodded. And then she went on.
You learn that it is only water. And with practice you grow in confidence.
Only water. I thought about that. My mind went to fears of sharks and all kinds of danger
but only water.
Life too has it’s challenges. It’s sudden twists and turns.
But it’s only life.
If I can keep my focus on the One Who walks with me day after day,
I too might slowly begin to have the confidence of the surfer.
Focus. Confidence. Only water.
And practice. practice. practice.
I had my lesson for the day.
