The sirens scream not far from our home.
Cars squeal their wheels.
Sounds of the helicopter overhead.
Trucks, ambulances. The sounds of busy life are everywhere
Oftentimes making it difficult to concentrate.
Hard to hear the sounds of nature all around.
Jarring the nerves.
But I have discovered that there are ways to filter what we hear.
I miss the sound of the waves splashing against the rocks.
I yearn to hear the cry of the seagull as it wings its flight over the beach.
Sounds that soothe
Sounds that bring peace.
So what can you do when you are surrounded by noise that jars and grates on your nerves?
Or can you do anything?
I have found that by simply playing some calming music
I am not only no longer disturbed
or distracted
but instead I am drawn into a place of peace and relaxation.
I play music CDs
listen to Whisperings: Solo Piano
and enjoy the sounds of the ocean

And the more I am intentional about filling my ears with the uplifting,
soul soothing sounds of relaxation
the greater sense of peace I enjoy.
How about you?
As life continues to grow more complex and oftentimes noisier
we must guard our health by making positive choices and using what’s available.
Yes, we might not be able to live at the ocean
but these days we can bring the sounds of the ocean
and the cry of the seagull
right to us.
Drink in the peaceful sounds. Experience the healing that it brings.
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
