Shining Moments

Mar 8, 2013

It’s pretty amazing, I heard her say as she told the story.

Early Wednesday morning we woke up to a blanket of heavy snow

on the ground.

Branches bent low with snow

and I decided to shovel the walks in a few minutes.

But then I heard a sound.

Scraping. Scraping. Metal on cement.

What’s that? I asked.

Our neighbor, you know…the man way down at the end

he’s shoveling everyone’s sidewalks.

Yes, that’s exactly what he did.

One after another

including the walk up to everyone’s house.

Pretty amazing.

In a world that so often thinks only of itself

it is refreshing to see another indication

that there are still people

that look out on life

and see what they can do to make a difference. Shining Moments

This humble man

who quietly slipped back into his house when he was done,

set the bar high for others.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

And I love these words—

1 John 3:18    Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

My life

being broken for others.

Visions come to mind of Another

broken bread and poured out wine.

Giving with no thought of receiving back.

Love in action

on ordinary days when no one is even looking.

Open my eyes, Lord,

and help me to see what I can do today.

Let’s move into our world one step at a time

living out the Message of hope and love.

Will you join me?
